This Health and Safety Policy sets out our commitment as a professional removal company operating in and around Harringay to protect the wellbeing of our employees, customers, contractors, visitors and members of the public. We recognise our legal and moral duty to manage our activities in a way that prevents injury, ill health and damage to property.
Our objective is to conduct all removal, packing, loading, transport and delivery operations safely, efficiently and with full regard for current health and safety legislation and recognised industry best practice.
Company management holds overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining this Health and Safety Policy. This includes ensuring that adequate resources, training, time and supervision are provided to manage risks arising from our removal activities.
Managers are responsible for:
Carrying out and reviewing risk assessments for all key tasks, including manual handling, vehicle operations, use of equipment and working at height. Introducing safe systems of work and ensuring that staff understand and follow them. Providing suitable work equipment, vehicles, tools and protective equipment that are properly maintained and fit for purpose. Investigating accidents, near misses and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Keeping up to date with relevant health and safety legislation and guidance and updating this policy as required.
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work. Every member of the removals team must:
Follow all safe working procedures, training guidance and instructions given by management and supervisors. Use equipment, vehicles and protective gear correctly and report any defects immediately. Avoid taking shortcuts or unsafe actions that could put themselves, colleagues, customers or the public at risk. Report hazards, near misses, accidents and concerns as soon as they become aware of them. Cooperate fully with health and safety inspections, investigations and training.
Risk assessments are carried out for all significant activities associated with our removal services, including domestic and commercial moves, packing, loading and unloading, storage operations and local transport. These assessments identify potential hazards and define control measures to eliminate or minimise risks.
We develop safe systems of work based on these assessments, which may include specific procedures for lifting and carrying, team lifting for heavy or awkward items, planning access routes, traffic management on site and safe use of lifting aids and trolleys.
Manual handling is a core part of removal work, and we recognise the associated risks of strains, sprains and other musculoskeletal injuries. To reduce these risks we:
Provide manual handling training covering lifting techniques, use of equipment and team communication. Encourage staff to assess each lift, avoid twisting and overreaching, and break down loads where practical. Use appropriate handling aids such as trolleys, sack trucks and moving straps whenever reasonably practicable. Plan removals to minimise carrying distances, steps and awkward manoeuvres where possible.
Our vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition, in line with manufacturer recommendations and relevant regulations. Drivers must hold the correct licence and be competent to operate the vehicles they are assigned.
We expect all drivers and crew to:
Perform basic vehicle checks before use and report any defects. Secure loads properly using straps, blankets and other securing devices to prevent movement during transport. Obey all traffic laws, speed limits and parking rules in the areas where we operate. Park and manoeuvre vehicles with consideration for pedestrians, neighbours and other road users. Avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that impairs performance.
When operating on customer premises, including homes, offices and commercial sites, our staff must act with care and attention to avoid damage and accidents. This includes:
Surveying access routes, stairs, lifts and doorways before starting work. Using floor protection and corner guards where necessary to prevent slips and damage. Keeping work areas tidy and free from trip hazards such as loose packaging or tools. Being aware of children, pets and vulnerable persons and ensuring they are kept away from moving loads and vehicles.
We provide appropriate tools and equipment to support safe removals, such as dollies, trolleys, ramps, protective blankets and straps. All equipment is checked regularly and removed from use if defective.
Where required by risk assessment, staff are provided with personal protective equipment such as safety footwear, gloves or high visibility clothing. Employees are required to use this equipment correctly and report any damage or loss.
All new staff receive induction training covering our Health and Safety Policy, safe working methods and emergency procedures. Further task-specific training is provided for manual handling, vehicle operations, use of equipment and working in higher risk environments.
Supervisors monitor working practices on site to ensure that procedures are followed and that any unsafe behaviour is addressed promptly. Additional training or refresher courses are arranged where needed.
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to the relevant manager or supervisor. We keep records of such events and review them to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Emergency procedures are in place for fire, serious injury, road traffic incidents and other foreseeable situations. Staff are instructed in how to respond, including raising the alarm, contacting the emergency services and making the area safe.
We are committed to continual improvement in health and safety performance. This policy and related procedures are reviewed regularly, and whenever there are significant changes to legislation, our operations or identified risks.
Feedback from employees, customers and other parties is encouraged so that we can further improve the safety and reliability of our removal services in the areas we cover. By working together, we aim to maintain a safe, professional and responsible removal service for all.
Among the rest removal companies Harringay, our services are always top quality and the prices are the cheapest in N4 area and beyond.
